JRA1 - MIDDLEWARE RE-ENGINEERING AND INTEGRATION

The Enabling Grids for E-science in Europe (EGEE) project aims to create a reliable and dependable Grid infrastructure across Europe. To date, Grid research projects have developed, and in some cases deployed, middleware following various designs and have identified the relative advantages of several types of Grid architectures.

For the EGEE project, a production Grid infrastructure will be implemented and deployed with the aim of creating a new level of reliability to users of the Grid.

The Middleware Re-engineering and Integration team aim to provide robust middleware components, deployable on several platforms. These components, providing a set of core Grid Services, were identified and developed in earlier projects. The team will implement a minimum amount of original middleware for the project.

The challenge and originality of the activity lies in selecting, potentially re-engineering and integrating a set of reliable production-quality services that together form a dependable and scalable infrastructure that meets the needs of a large and diverse user community. Another important goal for the team is to ensure that the middleware components evolve towards a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).

The activity has created a new discussion list, glite-discuss@cern.ch, that will be the focal point for discussions on experiences, problems, and best practices with the gLite middleware. We invite all gLite practitioners to subscribe to this list and exchange their experiences. You can subscribe to this list via the CERN listbox interface:

Please note that although gLite developers will be reading this list and try to help if possible, this is not a support list but rather focussed on getting the gLite community process started so gLite users can help each other.

If you find bugs in the gLite middleware, please post them to the savannah bug tracking system:
