BELNET
BELNET, the Belgian National Research Network, supplies advanced internet services to Belgian universities, colleges, schools, research centres and government services. BELNET was set up in 1993 on the initiative of the Belgian Federal Science Policy Office to accommodate the increasing data communication needs of Belgian universities and research centres.
The BELNET network was developed to promote research and education, and to stimulate national and international scientific collaboration.
BELNET rapidly turned into a performant and high performance IP-network, allowing direct connections at high capacity with the most advanced worlwide research networks, including the American Internet2 and the European multi-gigabit network G�ant.
Currently BELNET supplies Internet access to no less than 150 institutes in Belgium, totalling around 500,000 potential end users at a bandwidth of 2 Mbit/s to 2.5 Gbit/s.
BELNET will bring to EGEE its expertise in networking deployment, new network development and Grid deployment.
