The University of Macedonia, Economic and Social Sciences is one of the newer Higher Education Institutions in Greece. It started in 1957 as the Graduate Industrial School of Thessaloniki with only two Departments. In 1990 the University of Macedonia was officially decreed and today it provides courses in eight fields of undergraduate studies and three fields of interdepartmental programmes of post-graduate studies.
Aiming to constantly develop in all its fields, the University of Macedonia keeps abreast of international trends, promotes research and aims to create the next generation of scientists, researchers and businessmen who will participate equally, dynamically and effectively in the new challenges of an international and ever more globalised market.
UOM is active in parallel computing and grid projects.
